Adventures in Twitter Chats

TB

My first twitter chat experience came with more than a few false starts. I began by consulting the education chat calendar and found a few chats that sounded interesting, like the #edtechchat and #atchat. Unfortunately, the first few chats I attempted to join were either on a summer hiatus or just nowhere to be found...eventually I found one that looked promising, but quickly realized it was a discussion of a book I hadn’t read!

Finally I found #EduMatch, described as “connecting educators globally along similar interests.” The topic being discussed was AI, which is something I’ve thought about a lot but not really in the context of education. This twitter chat was technically a “Tweet & Talk,” so there was a panel of educators discussing the questions via Zoom meeting in addition to those tweeting with the hashtag. I logged onto TweetDeck and hopped in.

I was a little late to the chat, so I spent a while catching up and reading what others had already tweeted, and I also watched a bit of the discussion panel. I was nervous to participate, but it paid off-- I responded to someone’s tweet and not only did they like my response, I got a new follower!

My biggest takeaway is that I shouldn't be nervous about tweeting-- education twitter chats are full of educators sharing ideas and supporting each other, and participating is a great opportunity to expand both my mind and my PLN!
