21st Century Learning

TB

This week in CEP 810 we took a deep dive into the idea of “21st century learning.” The first thing I had to figure out was what exactly that phrase even means. There are a lot of different opinions out there, and a search for “21st century skills” yields a laundry list of competencies. I was able to find some commonalities among the sources I looked at, and in many cases found 21st century learning to be synthesized down to the 4 Cs: creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. I investigated three of those Cs a little further and considered the ways they function in my own practice as an educator, and made a video as a result.

I initially struggled a bit to identify clear ways I could improve in these areas, since I’m not a classroom teacher and don’t directly manage students on a regular basis. Upon further reflection I realized that my role requires constant collaboration with other teachers, as well as creative problem solving and critical thinking. One of my new goals is to focus on making meaningful collaborations with new colleagues this year and expanding my PLN at the local level.
